First up…

The government is unveiling a new strategy to tackle child poverty.

A child is said to be living in poverty if their household income is less than 60 per cent of the average wage.

In the North East around 20- 29 per cent of children are living in poverty with over 30 per cent in Newcastle.

A 9 year old girl, left scarred after a bottle was thrown at the car she was in, has spoken of the attack

Abbie Keers, from County Durham, needed emergency surgery to remove glass from her face after a glass bottle was smashed through the side of her grandmother’s car.

A man has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after an incident in South Shields today.

Great North Air ambulance was called at about 1:30pm

He is currently being treated at the RVI

Next up…

Work begins on an 11 million pound leisure complex in Washington today.

The centre is being built opposite the existing building, which is due to close in 2015.

The centre will include a six lane pool, four court sports hall, sauna and steam rooms.

Nicki Minaj’s former hairstylist is accusing her of selling wigs online based on his designs.

He is apparently suing her for 18 million pounds.

And finally sport now…

Sunderland suffered a 4-1 defeat away against Arsenal on Saturday.

Emanuele Giaccheini (jack-a-ree-ni) scored the only goal for Sunderland.

Sunderland’s manager admitted that his team was second best
